With the number of dengue cases in
north Bangalore increasing, many are now turning to Ayurveda from allopathic
treatment.
Dr B. Shalini from Shree Ayurvedics
in Sahakar Nagar answers our questions to help you understand better.
Question: How effective is Ayurvedic
treatment for dengue compared to Allopathic medicine?
Dr Shalini answers: In
Ayurveda, we call and treat Dengue as “Vishma Jwara”. With High fever, cold,
headache, joint pains, temperature going up and down, we can gauge the person’s
symptoms as dengue and suggest to get a test done asap to check platelet counts
and other parameters. In Ayurdeva, we increase immunity power and resistance to
fight the virus by the body. In Allopathy, patients are treated with IV fluids.
Blood transfusion is also undertaken.
Do you have any tests? If so, what is
the test cost and what are suggested treatments?
Normal tests followed for suspected
Dengue has to be done. Then we prescribe medicines based on the age of the
affected person. We prescribe Thrombup syrup or Thrombup capsules.
Thrombup consist of Andrographis
Panculata and Tinospora Cordifolia.
Abdrigraphis Panculata helps in
building and increasing liver immunity during fever, as liver is a critical
functionary for body and Tinospora Cordifolia helps in increasing immunity to
fight against the virus.
Can allopathic be tried at same time?
Yes, we have seen no issues so far.
How do you keep track of count?
We advise the patient to get the test
done every three days based on their condition. Based on the test, an
increased or reduced dosage can be prescribed.
Any side effects of Ayurveda
medicine?
Any medicine, if taken in prescribed
limits will not have any side effects. If patients panic and take more than the
prescribed medicine, then there could be problems.
What is the cost of treatment?
The patients have to take medicine
strictly as per prescription. The treatment will be less than Rs 1,000 per
person. But, medicine stocks are based on availability. For the last three
months, the stocks are getting fast depleted due to an increase in the number
of dengue cases.
I have already treated many patients
and we do get recommended by some allopathy doctors and hospitals also.
Are papaya
leaf extracts really a cure for dengue?
Yes, but it depends where the plant
grows. If the papaya plant is grown in unhealthy surroundings, when consumed it
may lead to mouth ulcers and other complications. It is best to visit a doctor
and go by professional advice.
Any suggestions to prevent dengue?
Please fumigate your homes regularly.
Place a pan, heat it up, put neem leaves in it and allow the smoke to circulate
around the house. This will help kill the mosquitoes and the virus can be
avoided. Also ensure you reach the doctor before it is late.
