Save A Life, our community connect programme in North Bangalore in association with Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore, conducted a demonstration of Basic Life Support (BLS) to teachers, students and supporting staff at EuroSchool, Kogilu campus, Bangalore on World Cardiology Day. The session equips participants to deal with emergencies.
Dr.Narayanswamy, Consultant, Aster CMI Hospital explained what is Basic Life Support and how one should handle emergencies such as cardiac arrest, breathlessness, drowning, accidents and other such emergencies.Students and teachers were given a hands-on experience on BLS through an AMBU CPR mannequin. Among questions students of Grade 7 and 8 asked the doctor was: Does CPR necessarily help a victim recover? How do you know for sure that the person has suffered a cardiac arrest? Should we continue to administer CPR even if there is delay in an ambulance arriving? How many times should rescue breaths be given? Does having high BP lead to heart attacks? Why are electric shocks given to victims in movies? At the end of the normally hour-long session that stretched to an hour-and-a-half, a few teachers and students wanted to enroll themselves for a day-long program at Aster CMI Hospital to become a certified BLS administrator. The children were also requested to spread the message on the importance of Blood donation and organ donation.
