Join for a stroll around Jakkur lake

A guided walk along the Jakkur lake early February 21 morning hopes to give insights into the water body.

The interactive walk involves various stakeholders and experts who will share interesting stories, facts and information about the Jakkur kere.

Listen into tales of villagers and farmers - whose lifeline it was - till the urban sprawl spread right upto and beyond its peripheries.

Get to know its transition from a picturesque rural lake into an `Urban' lake from Surekha, an artist who has documented the entire transformation in a work titled 'Jakkur lake Tales - Death and rebirth of the lake'.

Those present can also explore the biodiversity of the lake through photographs captured by various photographers and avid bird watchers.

Some of you will a also be surprised that your neighbourhood lake is known across the nation for its Integrated Urban Water Management system.

The walkers can also explore its wetland, chat up with the fisherfolk, farmers and peek into the large open well that has been recharging the vast water body and how it is a vital link among a chain of neighbouring water bodies.

You can also volunteer. The walk ends with a lakeside breakfast, which requires an advance registration.

As a Swachch Bharath initiative, an intensive cleaning drive has also been organised by the BBMP Joint Commisioner, Yelahanka.
