The group of 12 who made it early were treated to close views of a variety of bird species in the water body.

Led by veteran adventure organiser, Dev Balaji, the group of bird lovers, some of them armed with telephoto lenses, ventured along the banks to spot an array of colourful birds both in the water and in flight.

Jakkur is one of the few lakes in north Bangalore which attracts birds as it boasts of a good yield of fish. There are over a 100 species of feathered friends who can be found here at any given time as they nest on the lake's bank and islands.

Tej Kumar, one of the enthusiasts said he found the walk very educative while his six-year-old son found it exhilarating to run around a large patch of land, which has become very rare in the city.

As the sun came up early, the walkers regretted having started late. They later had a crisp breakfast of idlis and vadas and headed back to the city along with a certificate for attending the workshop.
