“Darling, the mind goes numb, silent and asphyxiated in the evenings these days
And I lose the illusions of my mind and my heart that I have created before you
Like a crafty magician all these years
As the night takes over the universe it is the failings of my body that well up
In the movie screens – multiplex – of my mind
And not the ponds, grasslands, sunflowers and cemeteries
I have been telling you since my youth”
-Sabarna RoyIf you like these lines and want to hear more, join up for an unusual evening of poetry and literature at Jus’ Trufs with acclaimed poet and Kolkatan, Sabarna Roy on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.
Roy, 44, will take you through 90 minutes of his work. A civil engineer from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Roy belongs to the senior management in a manufacturing and engineering construction company.
An avid reader and a film buff, the author-poet has travelled widely across India and lives in Kolkata with his family.
While he started writing during his university days, mostly English and Bengali poems, he stopped abruptly after he took up his job.
But, the literary bug bit him after a gap of 19 years. So, he started writing once again mostly to reconnect with himself.
In 2010, he published a book comprising a long story and four long narrative poems titled Pentacles and in 2011 a book comprising a story cycle (that had 14 short stories) and a poem cycle (of 21 poems) titled Frosted Glass with Frog Books.
