Starting at 7 am, it will be a three hour long activity around the water body along with a short break for breakfast.

The workshop will take participants through a briefing, introduce them on how to identify birds and a de-briefing at the end of it all. The bird watching workshop is being organised by experienced adventure organiser Dev Balaji who owns Nature Admire. Balaji says this is an experience urban folks should not miss as it will be an eye-opener of the bird species that co-exist with them.

This workshop will not only help them identify species but also provide tips on how to help conserve their neighbourhood biodiversity at the micro level."

Located in north Bangalore, the almost 2 km radius Jakkur lake is rich in biodiversity and its islands and banks support a whole eco-system of birds. The lake is well maintained by local residents, including Jala Poshan trust, headed by Annapurna Kamath.

Bio-diversity expert Harish Bhat from the Indian Institute of Science who will be leading the explanation on Saturday, says there are 100 plus species of birds in Jakkur that include Grey Heron, Painted Stork, Pelicans, Purple Moorehen, Cormorants, Egrets, Pond Herons, Asian koel, Indian Roller, Blue Kingfisher, Purple-rumped sunbird, Paddyfield Pippits, Large Pied Wagtail, Bee eaters and many more.
