After Skywalk, vehicles still crawl at Manyata

After the skywalk has come up opposite Manyata Tech Park on the Outer Ring Road in Nagawara, there seem to be mixed reactions to whether traffic still crawls or has speeded up.

Regular road users, the ones who do not work at the tech park, say the traffic on the lane towards Hebbal slows down as the bus stop has now been shifted to the mouth of the skywalk and a permanent line of autorickshaws are being allowed to park.

On the lane from Hebbal towards Manyata Tech Park, a bad stretch at Dr Rajkumar’s lake and the unimaginative traffic lane system under the flyover slows down traffic considerably. Also, further down the road, where the flyover traffic merges with the traffic coming alongside, there is an immediate opening onto the service road leading to slowing of traffic again especially during peak hours.

Sriram Yadav, a techie working at Manyata says the security and home guards on both sides of the skywalk ensure that all pedestrians compulsorily use the skywalk to cross over. He agrees it has become simpler too as earlier pedestrians were at the mercy of fast moving cabs and heavy vehicles.

“That fear of being hit by these vehicles while crossing the road is no more there,” he told North Bangalorepost.

To make the traffic flow smoother, the traffic police should not allow autorickshaws to park on the Ring Road and instead direct them to wait for customers on the service road. This small correction will result in smoother traffic flow as often buses stopping before the autos suddenly swerve disrupting smooth flow.

On the other side, the problem is much before the skywalk, says Rajan PV, a resident of Coffee Board Layout. "The local corporator should ensure that all the roads around here are tarred so that vehicular flow becomes smoother. The opening in the service road too has to be solved in more imaginative ways as a small stretch is a two way and the direction of traffic changes in the morning and evening leading to much confusion.''
