After North Bangalorepost wrote about the ugly side of the beautiful Hebbal lake, hundreds of residents living on its banks have written complaining about the civic body’s apathy.

"As it has been raining in the last few weeks, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and the BWSSB have not speeded up works along the storm water drain abutting the lake. Instead, they are tarring all roads in Sahakarnagar, though it does not need any attention. They have got their priorities completely wrong, said Keshav Murthy, a resident of Bhadrappa layout.

The silt from the storm water drain has to be cleared if rain water has to flow smoothly. Residents have been complaining about this issue for the last three years, but nothing much seems to be done.

Already, on the land where the Military Farm is situated, stagnant water has formed and has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. It is high time the BWSSB and BBMP pay more attention to the drainage system here, residents said.
They also allege that some trucks come at night and dump medical waste, chicken waste and other harmful garbage into the drain choking it, a housewife Manjula said.

Lokesh N from Balaji layout says the entire area looks like a biodiversity park from a distance. "Once you walk towards it, it stinks and all kinds of mosquitoes and flies bite you. I have been living here for than four years and the situation is getting worst by the day."
Another resident Srividya from Multi Diamond apartment says BWSSB has left work undone and causing tremendous hardship to residents of her apartment in Balaji layout.

Students of Impact College have been complaining of nausea as the smell spreads till their classrooms which is quite far away from the drain, a college lecturer said.
Residents suggest that BBMP should fence the storm water drain so that garbage and sewage does not get into it. A petition has already been given in this regard to the local MLA who is also a minister during one of his visits.
