Acne, dandruff should not worry teens

A big shout out to all teens! Are you suffering from oily skin, acne or dandruff?

  • Eating out frequently and choosing fast food joints instead of wholesome home cooked meals results in hormonal imbalances
  • Eat balanced meals as far as possible in your college canteens if home cooked food is not an option.
  • Educate yourself and your peers about what is the right choice of food for your skin.
"Knowing these do’s and dont’s is a good foundation to begin with as it will take care of your skin,"says Dr Tina Ramachander, consultant dermatologist in north Bangalore.
According to the specialist, understanding these below points help in skin care:

1) Frequent washing of your face is not advisable as it does more harm than good.

2) According to your skin type, select a face wash with a PH of 5.5 and use the product not more than 2-3 times a day.

3) Protect your skin with sunscreen lotions. Stay aware that all sunscreens don’t make the face greasy or dark. Today, there area whole variety of sunscreens which give a matte finish for oily skin and hydrating one for those with dry skin.

4) Cleanse the face after a long day out to remove all dirt and grime.

5) Use a light moisturizer at night.

6) Treatment creams, if required, should be used after the moisturizer.

Diet also holds the key, says Dr Tina, as she puts down a few points for teenagers on their eating habits.

1) Choose foods which are wholesome and home-made.

2) Snack on proteins like nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies.

3) Avoid sweets as this is by far the worst aggravator of skin issues.

4) Consume lots of water.
