With summer already here and the mango season soon upon us, there cannot
be a better connection that nature has provided to protect us.
Mangos are natural sun blocker |
The King of fruits provides us with Vitamin A that protects us from the ultra-violet rays. So go on, have the yummy fruit and keep the harmful rays at bay.
But, summer also means a different set of skin issues can crop up,
says dermatologist Dr Tina Ramachander.
“The sun is at its worst and protection is the key to save the skin from
repercussions. It is best to avoid direct exposure to the sun
between 10 am and 4 pm. Those stepping out should apply sunscreen
liberally. Repeat again after two hours if they extend being outdoors,” says
the doctor.
Those who love to splash around the pool, the advise is to hydrate the
skin and apply the right type of sunscreens. A physical block is best when
choosing sunscreens for kids but do remember to wash the chlorine water off and
re-apply the sunblock after the swim.
In case of sunburn, Dr Tina says apply ice and calamine lotion. If the
sunburn is severe, then one has to consult a dermatologist.
Those taking painkillers should remember that it makes them susceptible
to the sun and there is a need to protect themselves from the soaring
temperature.
Antioxidants protect us from the sun to a great extent. The more
colourful the fruits and vegetables, they contain higher oxidant content and
that gives us greater benefits. So look out for the most colourful fruits and
veggies this season.
“Lastly, during summer, dry skin gets more damaged. So apply a good
moisturizer and drink plenty of water to help replenish skin and stay
protected,” adds Dr Tina.
So, enjoy the summer season with these tips and don’t miss the King of
fruits.
