Forty children from government schools around Jakkur are having a whale
of a time this summer, spending time creatively by participating in music,
dance, theatre and visual art workshops.
Kalakrida is a day-long immersive programme organised by Ahum Trust and
Satya Foundation where trained artistes bring the best out of these kids.
“At the end of the 20-day workshop, these children will showcase their
talent at a performance for their peers, parents and public at Jakkur circle on May
7,” says Annapurna Kamath, chairperson of Satya Foundation.
Noted danseuse Anuradha Venkataraman who runs Ahum says this is the
second year such a camp is being organised. “This summer camp is part of our
community outreach programme with the underprivileged and provides a chance to
this segment of children residing in north Bangalore by offering such
workshops.”
Annapurna says the participating children, aged between 8-16, are
provided snacks and lunch at the Satya Foundation premises in Sampigehalli. The
organisers have raised money though Ketto, a crowdfunding platform and their
target is to raise Rs 3 lakh for it.
As word spreads about the camp, the organisers had to turn away many
children. “We can accommodate only 40 kids at a time as it is an intensive Monday to Friday full-day
session,” says Anuradha.
The children are from government-run schools and a PU College in Jakkur
and Sampigehalli. They are trained in theatre by actor-director Santosh DD from
Ninasam, a prestigious theatre group from Sagar.
