On November 1, Howard Johnson Bengaluru Hebbal is putting together a celebration of the Karnataka cuisine.
This Kannada Rajyotsava, enjoy a meal befitting a king for a special occasion. And, for HoJo, as customer is the king, the hotel has laid out a lavish dining experience of local cuisine for families and friends.
Kannada Rajyotsava is the state’s formation day and what better than to celebrate it with cuisines from across the state. “In fact, every Tuesday, the hotel has been celebrating Namma Hojo where the buffet is complimented with state food,” says Executive Chef Mani Mohan Pathak.
Extending the same warmth from the kitchen this Rajyotsava, the customer can settle down to a wide variety of native dishes along with the regular buffet which includes Indian and Continental fare. The welcome drink is majjige, as butter milk is called locally. Starters include Masala vada, Mysore bonda, tawa meen fry and other surprises.

A live counter serves varieties of dosas with sambhar and chutney. Those wishing to have something more solid can move on to the ragi mudde counter. Karnataka’s staple food can be had with both vegetarian and non-veg options.
The main course includes Korri ghassi, Mangaluru mutton ghee roast, Meen masala fry, Bhatkali chicken biriyani and others.
For vegetarians, on this nada habba, they can choose from a variety of dishes such as cabbage upkari, saagu, bisibele baath, chitranna that goes well with heerekayi palya and badenekayi palya. Of course, Udupi rasam and sambhar is also part of the menu.

Desserts include semiya payasam, kesari baath, hobattu and others to indulge your sweet tooth.
In fact, in the days to come, Howard Johnson, an American brand hotel wants to bring in local flavour in a bigger way. “We want to add more regional Karnataka flavour to the buffet table at Nest, HoJo’s all-day-dining restaurant. We will promote regional food with seasonal vegetables,” says Chef Pathak who is known for his progressive Indian food.
